Wasn't sure where to put this, didn't put it in the trading post as I have no dollar value to post. I am out of Butcher's Wax and have a small horn on the way that needs a little help. Butcher's is no longer made. Does anyone have a hoarded stash that could send me a few tablespoons of it? Obviously I would pay shipping and maybe make a trade for cost of the product.
Thanks, Dave

Not sure lard or oil will work, there are some gaps around plug. From what I'm told they shouldn't be big enough for powder to leak out, but the horn isn't air tight. I am more concerned about moisture getting in. In figure butchers wax will fill the gaps and dry harder than beeswax.

I doubt very much that a mixture will achieve what beeswax will. I'd suggest beeswax - work some into the crack, warm so it soaks in and repeat until the crack is filled. Buff with a piece of canvas and go. That's how I've sealed a plug from the outside.
You can also pour a little molten beeswax into the spout, swirl and pour out the excess, warming the horn as needed to seal the plug.
Beeswax is tough and elastic enough to fill gaps and stay put.
