Quickest way to scrape a hide is fresh if one can.
Nicely done, appreciate the dedication and time you placed into the series.
I'll get the brain tan tutorial up before long Sicilian!

I'm watching and waiting!!! I got skunked on the draw for elk this year and although I'm probably going to buy an over the counter bear tag I do have a guide friend who is likely to souvenir me with elk meat and skins. Depending on how many skins I end up with I was thinking some buckskin and some hair on. I may not end up with the brains however. Can you do both tutorials?

Not much difference between the two besides a few more precautions, will explain the two.

If you don't get the elk brains I've heard eggs are a good substitute.

Great channel if you get a chance, he has a lot of good 18th C stuff on there

HawkEyes, Although I've heard of the eggs and now Mike H's suggestion of coconut oil I keep returning to the old stand by of brains and pig is cheap and available.

In terms of HC brain tanning, brains are the only way to go and that will be the way the "how to" will be done. There are a multitude of ways to skin a cat, but only one true brain tan.

Hence the name! LOL Please be sure to cover the ratio of brains to skin size if possible.

It's a rather simple job, just time consuming and takes work.

Geeze for a moment there I though I was being referred to as pork brain. I eat bacon, and pork sausage, and roast pork, and,,,,, well anyway, still seems not enough to be called "pork brains." Then I figured it out, maybe pork brains would be an improvement.
