Since you are in the healthcare field I'm sure you don't need any incentive to take all measures to protect those around you, test or not. That's very likely not true for the average person without your understanding. They might be much more inclined to do a hard isolation if they had a positive test rather than only a presumption of contagion based on symptoms. Spence You are exactly right. Unfortunately there are also people who do, or should, know better that still put others at risk, such as the coworker I probably got this from. I am isolating myself to my bedroom and my bathroom, wearing a surgical mask when I cross the hall to said bathroom, and wiping everything I touch outside this room with sanitizer. This isn't easy, I understand why people have a tough time with it. I'm not the most social person, but there is a difference between self imposed isolation and having it forced on you.

From what I read, it is an RT-PCR test (Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction). The goal is to amplify 2 viral genes. If only 1 gene amplifies, you can get a false negative. As the RNA genome is replicated, RNA copy-editing isn't as stringent as that for DNA, which could introduce changes in the RNA which reduces or prevents Primer binding. This could result in a poor amplification of a gene or genes, which would likely result in a false negative. This is how I currently understand the process.
Not perfect, but it does work.
You can't use antibodies in the blood, as it takes the body a couple of weeks to generate antibodies to an infection. However, antibodies would tell us who has been infected and recovered.
The new rapid test likely uses antibodies to the virus (in a similar manner as some rapid tests in use now for other infections). This could be tricky because of the RNA mutations which could alter surface proteins so they aren't "visible" to the antibody, giving a false negative. These things work on a lock and key type arrangement - if it isn't an exact or very close match, the antibody might not bind, giving a false negative.

Well...shit! Take good care of yourself. If you have ANY concerns (especially, if you feel short of breath), call your provider.
May your case be mild and recovery swift! Keep us posted on how you are doing. Albert

Brockennock Sorry to hear you got the viris, I'm sure you have everyone telling what to do etc. and I don't know much about it myself, but I have read of a guy who had it pretty bad and by chance sat a little to close to his fireplace and began to sweat and within minuets was able to breath freely and is now free from it, so it might be worth a try to take a sweat or something similar. pray you get well soon.

Man, those crickets are deafening....
So, an update. I am feeling much better than I was. Not 100% yet, but vast improvement. I still have to remain in isolation protocol until the 20th, though I will be having another phone call with Occupational Health from work about my status on Thursday. I'm expecting to be back in the line of fire early next week.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes. I can't express how much they have meant to me.

Glad you are recovering. Remember, it is unknown at this time if one can become reinfected. Stay safe at work and don't be in too much a hurry to go back...
