There is a neat item which is said to have originated in late 18th century but was mostly popular in mid- to late 19th century which I've never seen discussed on any re-enacting board. Today it's called the misers purse, but in the day was called a stocking purse, string purse, long purse, ring purse, misers wallet and others. Some sources say it is based on a very similar item from the 17th century, as in this example: "Being thus early up, I timely met with a long Purse lying neglected in the Street, whose entrance was on the middle like a Wallet." That's from _Jackson’s Recantation or, the Life & Death of the Notorious High-wayman, Now Hanging in Chains at Hampstead. Delivered To a Friend, a little before Execution ; Wherein is truly discovered the whole Mystery of that Wicked and Fatal Profession of Padding on the Road.” London, Printed for T. B. in the Year, 1674. Early on they were used by both men and women, but in late 19th were women's accessories. Does anyone have any info on these? Spence

Resembles a split-belly pouch in some ways... Yeah, just like a market wallet. I can see how the arrangement of rings would work efficiently, someone had a better idea. Spence

No one talks about them because no one does sprang weaving. I've seen maybe 1 during my modest decade of living history. Wish more people wove in sprang so we could have correct sashes too.
