Enjoyed that. Quite a lot of speculation, but still a fun hypothesis.
It was good seeing the remains of the ship and some of the artifacts from her, too.

Very neat, came across another video of the Tudor period ship that focused on the warbows she carried. They actually measured the draw weights on a select few bows which made me cringe... One broke.

Very cool posting. I spent a lot of time in Portsmouth on business. I toured the HMS Victory several times and the Mary Rose preservation building a number of times as well. Could not stay away. Thanks for the posting.

Thanks for the posting. Dave Did you get to see the Warrior while in Portsmouth? I was there in the summer months & while the Victory was neat & certainly worth a tour, they were sort of politely herding everyone thru a fairly brief set tour. Better to go in the off months. The Warrior on the other hand, was a go anywhere you like, stay as long as you like experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. When I can get back there, I will also want to see the Museum of Historical Diving, across the harbor in Gosport.

As a young midshipman on USNA summer cruise, the DDG that I was assigned to pulled into Portsmouth, and tied up right across the pier from HMS Victory and Warrior. While strolling the pier after hours, gawking at Victory, one of the Royal Navy warrant officers assigned to Victory asked me and another mid if we would like to come aboard. Needless to say we accepted, and wound up having a pint of Guinness in Nelson's Wardroom. What a fond memory that is!

That would be a memory hard to beat. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I spent a few days at Mystic Seaport, and most of one afternoon crawling all over the Charles W. Morgan whaleship. She's the oldest civilian vessel still afloat, second only to Constitution. A favorite part of that afternoon was hauling on a halyard to hoist a yard while singing a sea shanty. Even with a fair size group of haulers it wasn't an easy job....good work if you can get it, though.

I toured her at an Opsail event a few years ago.

Sad to say, my crewing days are behind me. For my sailing kicks these days I fall back on the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey-Maturin series. Spence

Yes I toured the Warrior as well. Fascinating ships and stories. Would love to take a ride on one but would not want to be an impressed sailor back then. A friend of mine lived not to far from Portsmouth and had a several hundred year old house. He showed me the hiding place that they used when the Navy came looking for new sailors. I met his dad who was an RAF pilot in WWII. He also took me on a tour of the taverns. What goes on in Portsmouth stays there!!!! Dave
