What a wonderful independence day celebration it was! Regardless of the crazy times I'm one proud patriot who loves his country. Wanted to share my complete field cannon I've dubbed the liberty gun. Yesterday we fired off about a dozen salute charges with 2oz powder charges using Goex cannon powder. What an absolute pleasure it was!!! An impressive display of firepower and pure enjoyment. Very proud of the accomplishment in fabricating this piece. I apologize for not uploading some video footage, I haven't the slightest idea on how to do that... However I've gotten word a local photographer wants to do some slow motion firing shots soon which certainly I'll be sharing when we do some live fire with ball.

She is a beauty. Very well done.
Can you charge her fast enough to keep up with the cannon shots in the 1812 overture? lol...

I'm going to hang off a limb and say likely not! Common, Hawkeyes! Captain George Pausch claimed his Hesse-Hanau artillery on the Saratoga Campaign could fire 12 rounds per minute. Surely you can beat some Hessian chump

Nice looking gun. What is the bore size? Gus 1.5" bore, 1/2 lber. Just started work on a 2 lber yesterday which will be 8" longer and a 1/4" wider than this barrel. Turned the breech plug and tacked it in place along with the trunions. Using 2" wheels 36" diameter and a solid oak split trail carriage much like the above but about a foot longer. Plan on making the glue ups this weekend for the carriage.

Neat. Did you design it off a "Grasshopper" Field Piece?

Neat. Did you design it off a "Grasshopper" Field Piece? Gus Somewhat, I'm not claiming it to an identical copy of anything though obviously, just a well made piece that is literally a "blast" to play with. The next build in progress will be more detailed in that department.
