Just looking for a general historical overview of the various militias along with how they operated and equipped.
So far I have this
"The Minute Men: The First Fight: Myths and Realities of the American Revolution" by John R. Calvin
Any other recommendations?

Look for "The Rise and Decline of the American Militia System" by James B. Whisker - 1999 438 pages, the first 313 cover thru the AWI so mostly 18th c & entire sections on individual states. Fine copies still available for less than $40 via bookfinder.

Although it’s limited to New England, Robert Gross, The Minutemen and Their World is a classic. It’s just been reprinted with a foreword by Alan Taylor, author of American Revolutions.
