I hope someone can help. I need a strip of thin brain tan or bark tan. Not a lot, just a little more than a 2 foot strip maybe 2 inches wide maximum, though not less than about an inch and a half.
Not sure what this is worth, but I know I can't afford a whole hide.
Can anyone help me out?

What is the final use for this? I've had good luck using automotive Chamois (oil-tanned and very similar to braintan) for many applications.

Interesting that this should come up, I've heard this before, I am currently using a piece to make a sweat band for my hat. Final use is to back a strip of that orange wool to make a powder horn strap, and to use a couple small pieces to create tab ends on two more strips for garters for my leggings. I plan to run leather thongs off the tab ends for tying. Will the chamois take and hold color?

The sling on my rifle is pillowticking backed with chamois. It will take walnut dye, but didn't go very dark. Had better luck getting a darker color with Rit.

I really like that reddish brown color I usually see bark tan turn out as. Hopefully Fiebings will work.
Not sure I can get a chamois big enough to get such a long strip from. I guess I'm going to the parts store tomorrow.

Not fond of Fiebings for this application, tends to transfer and stain other items.
Look for the larger size - I've found 3 sizes of Chamois, the largest was labeled 15 square feet IIRC.

Keep in mind that chamois is quite stretchy. You may need to find a thicker chamois that is wet, pre-stretched, tacked to a board and allowed to dry before cutting. As a horn isn't very heavy, this may not be necessary.
