All, be blessed in this new year.
While the future is uncertain on the front I for one always look forward to coming over to this small sliver of the web regardless if the footprint is small. Keep the powder dry and the flint sharp all!

Well said my friend.
We have quality over quantity here.
I pray everyone here is blessed with good health and enough of what you want and need in this new year.

Praying and blessing aren't part of my world, but I wish everyone a vastly improved and safe new year. brokennock said, "We have quality over quantity here." I'll agree with that, big time. It's what I imagine a forum would be like if it were run by monks who had taken a vow of silence. Spence

I will admit we aren't always a chatty bunch, but think of all the dreck we are free of - nasty comments, back-biting, personal attacks, absolute non-historical drivel, outright obtuseness, "if theyd'a had it, they would'a used it", over-stepping/hostile moderators, wasting endless hours on countering misinformation and being ignored and/or castigated for the effort and any number of other things that might come to mind...
On the other hand - may 2021 be far better than 2020 was for all. Taken as a whole, 2020 was a shit year. Albert

I will admit we aren't always a chatty bunch, but think of all the dreck we are free of - Albert That's true, and I am reminded of that every time I visit the other site, and am glad for it. That doesn't always cancel out the disappointment when three days go by without a post on this forum, though, and that's not rare. Adults could manage another option, chatty sans dreck. My holiday wish for next year. Spence

My holiday wish for next year. Spence All good points by both. I would probably post here more but for three things. First, because I use my phone more than my laptop now, posting pictures here is a pain to impossible compared to other forums, I need graphic aides sometimes to try to make my muddled thoughts clear. Second and third are somewhat combined. Here, I feel I'm still in the "shut up, listen and learn, try to ask good questions, end of the pool. At MLF I am finding myself answering as many or more questions than I'm asking,,,, which is really scary as I feel I'm more just parroting than really knowing. And 3, being at a certain point in getting my kit and clothing together, as someone in the aforementioned learning group here, I need more time doing now that I'm pretty well outfitted, more time experiencing, time using the gear, time immersed in the 18th century, before I can ask better questions or contribute more 1st hand knowledge.

At worst, we are all learning. Without questions, there can be no answers which generate more questions (repeat as necessary). I learn more when I'm trying to answer questions because it makes me think more deeply about what I remember and then find I don't know as much as I thought I did. We should never let a day go by without learning something new.
All that said, this is the only thing I miss about the other forum - learning more when trying to answer questions (even if I was told to knock it off/dial it back by one of the mods - no name needs mentioning, as we all know who it was).

Should we start a "stump the board" thread? From what I've seen thus far, this would be quite an accomplishment if it could even be done - lots of knowledge & experience here...

FWIW, I miss NOTHING about the other forum. As a young Naval Aviator, I was taught to always think twice before keying the mic and make sure what I was about to say added value (in terms of "situational awareness" - but in this context "interest" or "knowledge" would be more appropriate) to the rest of the members of my flight.
If I could make a brilliant, paradigm-altering comment every day, rest assured that I would. Personally, I would rather await with anticipation even sparse postings which meet the aforementioned criteria than wade through pages of willful ignorance, banality, self-aggrandizement, and bloviation, not to mention suffering overbearing martinets as moderators.

The more time I spend with you guys, the more I wish there was some way to sit around a fire and share a bottle of Rum with you all.

....I learn more when I'm trying to answer questions because it makes me think more deeply about what I remember and then find I don't know as much as I thought I did.... Yup, this I have found to be true for myself as well. I do occasionally post topics that I am hoping will be of benefit to newcomers in the future. Even though I get annoyed when someone resurrects an 11 year old thread, I think that they do tells us that at least someone may benefit from one if our discussions further on up the road.

My personal opinion... I hate the other forum and won't go near it unless nock sends me a link for something interesting in the classifieds. For me, this place is my home amongst you fine individuals and its were I plan to stay.

I still visit and post on the other forum occasionally, in spite of the warts. There are a few members there who show some interest in the historic aspects of the game, and a lot of people new to it. I've been on that forum for more than 10 years and have made a few good friends there, I enjoy smoozing with them.
I have never felt that ours is the only proper way to approach the hobby, and that an interest in the history is not a requirement. What I do hate is the intolerance of those only in it for the shooting for those of us with historical interests. It's OK with me for them to do it their way, but they don't extend the same privilege to me, and that's unacceptable.
Some aspects of the hobby of great interest to me are scarce on the ground or absent on this forum, namely hunting, the guns and their ballistics. I assume members with those interests will eventually come along here, but when I'm interested in talking about those subjects the other forum is the only game in town.

Spence et.al., I am happy you are here and your association with this forum doesn't not require exclusivity. I cannot support the other forum for a variety of reasons (it's the Sicilian in me) but do not begrudge anyone who does. Albert

I can certainly not fault anyone for opting out of the other forum, Lord knows there's reason enough. That has to be a personal decision for each of us, and will be as varied as the people. I think of The Minuteman Forum as my home forum, and I'm mighty pleased with it, and to have it, but it's too young and small to give every member everything they need. If we are lucky and work hard time will eliminate that problem, I predict.
A big thank you, Albert. You done good.
