This board would be nothing without the members. I already spend too much time talking to myself...

Some aspects of the hobby of great interest to me are scarce on the ground or absent on this forum, namely hunting, the guns and their ballistics. I assume members with those interests will eventually come along here, but when I'm interested in talking about those subjects the other forum is the only game in town. Spence Spence, for what it's worth, I am also interested in hunting and ballistics. I just don't recall the subject being broached here much. That doesn't mean I'm not interested. Maybe there are others, too?

There have been a few hunting threads or at least hunting related threads posted. I don't recall any discussions on ballistics, especially of those free-ranging think-outside-the-box ones which are so much fun.
This is one of those cases where a lively discussion depends on input from several people, at least in my experience. The more opinions contrary to your understanding/belief, the more opportunity to learn something useful. As Stephen Maturin said in Patrick O'Brian's Fortunes of War, "Where would conversation be, if we were not allowed to exchange our minds freely and to abuse our neighbors from time to time?”

Looking for people to challenge what you believe is an admirable goal. Only closed-minded people purposely live in an echo chamber surrounded by those that believe exactly as they do - this keeps their beliefs from being challenged or forcing them to think...

...I have never felt that ours is the only proper way to approach the hobby, and that an interest in the history is not a requirement. What I do hate is the intolerance of those only in it for the shooting for those of us with historical interests. It's OK with me for them to do it their way, but they don't extend the same privilege to me, and that's unacceptable.... Spence This is 100% accurate, I could not agree more. I'm very interested in the hunting aspect of all this. That is really a large part of my, "why" in all this and the core of my short and long term goals with it. To pursue my usual outdoor activities of squirrel, deer, and turkey, hunting, as well as scouting, in clothing and with gear accurate to the period between 1750s and 1780, for someone drifting between New England and the Wyoming valley of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately it has taken a lot longer than I hoped and planned to get the clothing together, still some gear issues to work out, but pretty much there as far as "stuff" goes. Now, the bigger challenge, finding time to get out there, and ways to work through or around the restrictions of dealing with public land. I agree that on the other forum there has been an increase lately of newcomers a bit more interested in the historical aspect of things, and posting and asking good questions in the "reenacting" section at MLF. There are still a few chuckle heads that annoy the daylights out of me there, luckily one of the worst 2 mostly restricts his stupidity to his classified ads.

I often have limited time for internet dealings and what not. Frankly for myself it's not given much priority and I'll jump on when a piece of time allows outside my daily activities.
While a useful tool I'm still not sold on the technology aspect of things and would rather be in my element verus a screen, which ends up being a phone, strained eyes and frustration with a tiny virtual keyboard... Which makes me again limit my forum/ discussion time.
