I've placed an order for a new small Panther Primitives wedge. With my little one getting older I'd like to atleast have the option of having a wedge available to take him along when not traveling solo. This brings me to the idea of living in luxury while using the wedge. No use in sleeping upon the ground for the "experience" as I've gained and still procure plenty of the experience myself when solo. I've been searching for paintings and examples of period cots/ rope beds (which I'm not wanting to fool with). The only logical thing I can find is this cot reproduction but, again I'm unable to source anything beyond the image. This may be a shot in the dark to the end, yet I'm not wanting to step outside the confines of our period of interest. Sourcing something may be hard, as it's proving to be... Construction of such a piece should be straightforward, more so than actual documentation of this piece it seems. Any suggestions?

The cot you pictured looks like the work of Dick Toone at The Living History Shop (website is livinghistoryshop.com). I see Dick at the Fort Frederick 18th c Market Fair each year and he does wonderfully made, heavily researched 18th c camp furniture (at somewhat hefty for me prices). A friend has one of his cots which she uses in a large wedge & is very happy with it.

I have a multitude of rough sawn white oak that would be perfectly suited for such a piece. Planning to proceed with the piece but would love to see an image of the, shall we say undercarriage of this particular cot.

Hawk, I suppose it would depend on which wedge you ordered. I have British Dragoon’s wedge and if I put a standard size army cot in it I’m kissing canvas if I set it up to one side. Since you’re making a period cot I would pay close attention to the finish height of the cot

I can't believe Hawkeyes is going soft and building a cot. What is our world coming to?
We really are doomed.
Lol

Worth noting, being of above average hobbit size my reproduction will likely look like a doll cot compared to most.
