Wondering if anybody else has read this book? Has some great citations and covers a variety of topics. Does anybody know the author?

Armando, more than 25 years ago I owned/moderated a small forum called Muzzle Loader Mailing List, about 800 members. In those days we didn't have internet based forums, they were e-mail based mailing lists. Joseph Ruckman was an active member who participated and contributed generously to our discussions, and was quite knowledgeable. I would think he would write a good book.
BTW Townsends has the book for $15 instead of the $30 Amazon asks.

Yes, I have it and have read it a couple times. Pretty good.
It has been a while since I read it. I seem to recall that, like the "sketchbook" series of books, it suffers from the lack of ability be updated. Sometimes new info comes forth, sometimes old info thought gospel is found to be wrong, or at least reason is found to call that "gospel" into question. I love books. Some might even say I have a book "problem." But they do have the one flaw of becoming dated. I'm not saying for sure this book has things in it that made me go, "hmmm, we now think that not to be so." But it could be. Nor would a few of these things ruin an entire book. But, this flaw is good to keep in mind for all non-period source books.

This is one book I haven't read... Keep seeing it pop up in discussion. Is the information it contains worth me obtaining? As in does it contain anything, shall we say we are not "aware of"?
I personally prefer period journals and diaries, much can be gained from their writings.

I got a copy years ago & used it as a guide to my first impression. It at least helped me avoid a number of rondy/reenactor "isms".
