I get a kick out of browsing through antique malls and flea markets to see what I can pick up to take home and alter into gear for the hobby, and its a cheaper way to go as well. A few weeks ago I picked up an old knife for $4 and then took my grinder to it to reshape the blade, then replaced the handle with a piece of oak I had lying around, I chose the pistol grip or ball handle shape. It turned out to be one of the best balanced/feeling knives that I have. (I forgot to take a photo before altering) The second project is a small box that is roughly made in the fashion of a candle box. I am one of those guys that like to have eggs for breakfast every morning, and was trying to figure out a way to take eggs on our treks, and was watching a video that Townsends put out about preserving eggs, and according to their research one of the ways they did that in the 18th century was to store them in wood ashes, so I got the idea to put eggs in a box layered in ashes and it works real well, haven't broke any yet, most of the treks we do are by canoe so I have plenty of room for the box.

Nice. I like both. What are the measurements of the box?

Very nice, I have an original box somewhat like yours. Like that poking stick, again well done!
