I rather enjoyed reading the newest addition to the Daniel Boone canon, Blood and Treasure. I read everything on Daniel Boone and this is the most recent (2021) addition to the bookshelves about the man and his time period. Revisiting information, stories, people and places that I’m familiar with is always part of my continuing education. I always like digging deeper into other frontier scouts like Simon Kenton, Mike Stoner, etc but also seeing familiar First Nations leaders like Cornstalk, Dragging Canoe, Black Hoof, and more. All of these people are historical icons that show us the power, strength, and perseverance possible in humanity. We fall way way too short in modernity. This one quote, unfortunately not foot noted, made me stop. Not just because of the mention of facial hair, but specifically it’s supposed widespread use on the East Coast. Just wondered if anybody else had ever read this anywhere or can imagine what source the author was using.

What year would this homecoming be taking place? I am wondering if, "along the Eastern seaboard," was truly meant literally. I seem to recall pictures/paintings of seafaring men of the time with beards, but, not many of townspeople or eastern farmers or tradesmen.

"an impish grin"?
That doesn't sound like a quotation to me, but something conjured by the author. A book review says, "A well-written, fast-paced account that neatly bridges the gap between historical fact and fiction."

"Historical fiction" authors often get themselves in such fixes when their creative license exceeds their knowledge of period material culture.
